The UNLV football team sits at No. 19 in both the Associated Press and Coaches Poll, moving up two spots today in each ranking ahead of Friday’s Mountain West championship game at Boise State.
The Rebels beat UNR 38-14 Saturday to finish the regular season 10-2 overall.
This is the initial time in 40 years that the program has won 10 games. The ranking is the best in program history.
The stakes are high for the showdown against Boise State, with the winner potentially earning a spot in the inaugural, 12-team College Football Playoff.
“It’s been a goal of ours,” linebacker Jackson Woodard said Saturday about winning a league title. “It’s a standard of this program, and now we’ve got to go finish. It’s in our hands. We’re here. Let’s go do it.”
Boise State, which is ranked No. 10 in both polls, is a 5-point betting favorite against UNLV. Boise State beat UNLV in last year’s Mountain West championship game.
The game is at 5 p.m. Friday on Fox Sports.
