Is it time to eat dinner or is it time to have a drink? Well, it’s Nine Fine Irishmen at New York-New York, so it’s appropriate to do either or both! The pub itself is cozy, with little nooks to tuck yourself in during dinner, and a long, long bar to get a beverage.
As it’s a pub, start dinner with beer—Guinness, an Irish stout that combines a measure of sweetness with a strong finish, is perfect. But there are plenty of Irish choices on draft here, like Kilkenny cream ale, Harp lager and Magners cider. You can also get Elysian Space Dust, an India pale ale that is exceedingly flavorful, and locally brewed blond ale Showtime by 7Five (Golden Knights’ Ryan Reaves’ brand). If those don’t shake your world, you can get classic mixed beverages like the Black and Tan or plenty of bottled domestic and craft beers. And yes, you can find just about any cocktail you want, with colorful names, plus a really good selection of whiskey.
Fill in the gaps left between beers with apps, including the Irish nachos, thick slices of curled potatoes covered with beer cheese sauce, green onions and chive aioli. Add on chicken, steak or even corned beef to spice the dish up a little. You can also get that beer and cheese sauce with assorted bread for dipping. Fried dill pickles and fried sausages are both beer-battered, served with dipping sauces.
And it wouldn’t be right if you didn’t try the traditional fish and chips—beer-battered Alaskan cod served with tartar sauce and Irish chips. Another classic dish is the chicken pot pie, with chunks of chicken, onions, carrots and a creamy tomato sauce blanketed by a flaky crust. There is, somehow, something quite satisfying about breaking open the crust of a pot pie and having a steamy cloud carry the fragrance of your meal upwards.
For a more American experience, order a 16-ounce bone-in ribeye or a New York strip steak, accompanied by herbed tomato and pearl onions. To lighten it up a bit, try grilled chicken or salmon.
If you’re all about weekend brunch, the Irish breakfast piles on an Irish banger, Irish bacon, eggs, tater tots and good old white toast. Get those potatoes in a slightly different form with the Pub Breakfast fries, with two eggs on thick steak fries, adding on corned beef and green onions. Do you like a little sweetness with your morning meal? Bailey’s French toast will give you all the flavor of the classic drink, with powdered sugar coating the whole shebang.
Nine Fine Irishmen is open until 10:30 p.m. for dinner, and features bands both inside and on the patio; hours for bands vary.
