Albert Tuitele and Antwan Hawkins had rushing touchdowns Friday night for the Mojave football team in a 14-10 win over Somerset Losee in the Class 4A Mountain Region championship game.
Mojave’s defense stopped Losee on the 5-yard line in the final seconds to secure the win and advance to face Canyon Springs Nov. 26 for the Class 4A state title at Allegiant Stadium.
“We knew coming into this game that we were going to have to earn this win,” Mojave coach Wes Pacheco said. “Our guys showed grit and resilience in the face of adversity.”
Canyon Springs used a pair of rushing touchdowns from Bakari Wilson in a 41-21 win over Eldorado for the Class 4A Desert League title.
The Pioneers won the game on special teams with kick returns for a score from Deandra Cobb and Josiah Moon. Cobb and Major Pride added touchdown runs, and Avyion Harper led the defense with two sacks.
Mojave and Canyon Springs are located a few miles apart in North Las Vegas. Neither school has won a state football title. That will soon change.
“Job’s not finished,” Pacheco said.
