LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A local 10-year-old who inspired his little league team’s recent World Series run, got a surprise of his own this week!
Earlier this year, FOX5 introduced you to Colston Delk, a valley boy battling Stage 4 bone marrow cancer.
On Friday, Colston returned home from Salt Lake City, where he received treatment and testing for his neuroblastoma. Once he arrived, he was surprised to see his home decorated for his favorite holiday, with the help of many of his family and friends and the Henderson Fire Department.
“We come home and it‘s like a 24-hour Christmas miracle,” Delk’s mother Samantha said, amazed at the outpouring of support for her son.
The decoration team all lined up for Colston’s arrival. When he pulled up and got out of the car, he broke down in tears.
“I saw flashing lights, and it was by our house, so I didn’t know if it was our neighbors or it was us,” Colston shared with FOX5. “I turned around that corner and I just started crying. It’s a really nice surprise.”
Colston then greeted the Henderson firefighters who work with his dad and was also comforted by some of his Little League teammates.
Even more decorations awaited Colston as he walked inside, thanks to local design company Living Festive, with a couple of trees already decorated. Colston’s family was happy to bring him Christmas joy.
“Five, ten years from now, I want him to not know the bad days,” Samantha said. “I want him to know that the good days outweigh the bad days any day.”
Every day is a step toward normalcy for the Delk family, as Colston continues making progress.
“Now he’s going out in the garage hitting baseballs, catching footballs,” his older sister Addison noted cheerfully.
As he makes that progress, Colston is grateful to be able to spend his recovery with his family, especially during this time of year.
“I think the best part of Christmas and Thanksgiving and all those holidays is just being with your friends and family,” he said.
