LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5)—The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System announced that its operating rooms will temporarily close to complete renovations.
According to officials, a minor construction project to upgrade operating room equipment will occur from Nov. 12 to Dec. 22.
VASNHS explained that historically, the scheduled dates for the construction project is a slow period. They hope this will help to minimize the impact on Veteran patients.
“VA is committed to updating and modernizing its infrastructure whenever possible to ensure we have the latest technology and equipment available to meet the needs of Veterans who seek care locally,” said Michael Kiefer, VASNHS’ acting executive director.
Urgent surgical needs will be taken care of outside of the facility.
According to the release, several patients who had routine or elective surgery scheduled during this time before the facility announced the closure were offered to reschedule their surgery before closing.
“As part of this commitment, there are times we need to make short-term adjustments to our day-to-day operations to support long range goals and outcomes. We have worked diligently to mitigate the impact to our Veterans and apologize for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause.” shared Kiefer.
VA officials said surgery staff will use the free time to book additional patient appointments and provide consultations before reopening the operating rooms.
Patients with questions or concerns are recommended to contact their surgical team.
