LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Nevada National Guard will be at the polls on Election Day in northern and southern Nevada.
Governor Joe Lombardo said in a news release on Monday that he would like a “safe and smooth” Election Day. Lombardo will activate the National Guard to support state and local resources.
The governor says he will have 60 members of the guard activated and on standby in both Carson City and Las Vegas.
Some of their duties will include: traffic enforcement, building security and coordinate communication across Nevada, if additional support is needed.
Governor Lombardo said, “After consulting with stakeholders across the state, I have decided that a precautionary activation of the National Guard makes sense at this time. We do not expect that these personnel will need to be deployed.”
Lombardo concluded, “As a first responder, I know first-hand the importance of being prepared, and this decision reflects my commitment to safety and preparedness on Election Day. As always, I am deeply grateful to the men and women of our National Guard, and I appreciate their service to our state and country.”
