LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Mail ballot drop boxes were used in the 2020 general election in Clark County and many are using them now.
The Clark County Election Department says it will make secure mail ballot drop boxes easily accessible, conveniently located and widely available, at all early voting sites and all Election Day vote centers.
FOX5 asked election officials several questions about the drop boxes, including whether any cameras are keeping an eye on them.

“Almost all of our drop boxes are at our polling places, and are only there while the polling place is open. We also have a drop box at the Election Department main building and it is monitored,” said Stephanie Wheatley, deputy director, communications and strategy for Clark County.
Wheatley also talked about security of ballot boxes.
“The mail ballot drop boxes are sealed with two metal cable seals before they leave the Election Department. Those seals remain on the drop boxes until they return to the Election Department later that day,” she said.
Wheatley said the county is not aware of any time where someone has broken into a drop box and is also not aware of any incident of a drop box ballot not making to election headquarters to be counted.
The county says people using the mail ballot drop boxes must seal their ballot inside the postage page return envelope. And people must sign the outside of the envelope before placing it in the drop box.
Drop box locations and hours can be found in the mail ballot packet sent to voters.
