LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV football senior Jackson Woodard has been named the Raising Cane’s Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Thursday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
Woodard, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, helped the Rebels earn a 50-34 victory over Utah State. The senior turned in 12 total tackles, including a half-tackle-for-loss, was responsible for three turnovers, which included two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He also added three pass breakups against the Aggies.
The standout linebacker had five passes defended, which ties with one other player in the country for the most in the game this season. Woodard is now tied for second in the nation with four interceptions and leads the country with 1.8 passes defended per game. Additionally, he ranks second in the Mountain West with eight tackles for loss and 14th nationally with 9.5 tackles per game.
Woodard became just the second Rebel football player in history to earn three MW Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same season (Beau Bell 2007).
