LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Athletic Club announced Wednesday that pools will be reopening after a nearly two-month closure.
“We’re so excited to announce that our pools will be reopening over the next few weeks,” an email to members reads. “We know how important the pool area is to your fitness routine and to the community, and we can’t wait to welcome you back. Since reopening dates will vary by location as we wrap up final details and lifeguard scheduling, please keep an eye out for updates specific to your club.”
The gym was forced to close its pools after an investigation by the Southern Nevada Health District caused its lifeguard waiver to be revoked. A report from SNHD obtained by FOX5 detailed two incidents that occurred in the gym’s pools – one of which involved the drowning death of 58-year-old Leticia Triplett.
LVAC filed a lawsuit against SNHD following the initial closure, claiming the district did not give them enough warning about the upcoming changes.
Triplett’s family has also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the gym.
Last month, LVAC announced that it would be hiring and training lifeguards as part of a new agreement with the health district to reopen its pools. The health district approved that plan in early October.
LVAC has not announced when pools will be reopening, but the letter did note that it will vary by location.
They added, “Thanks so much for your patience—we’ll be sharing exact reopening dates for each location very soon!”
