LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – District attorney Steve Wolfson has informed Clark County School District trustee Katie Williams to vacate her office.
Williams is not a Nevada resident, which according to a letter disqualifies her from serving.
In a letter dated Wednesday, DA Wolfson tells Williams her “ceasing to be an actual resident of the State of Nevada and ceasing to be a resident of District B of CCSD,” is the reasoning behind the decision. Wolfson quotes the Nevada law tied to the matter.
The letter states she has until September 9 to relinquish her office.
Back in early June Williams released a statement saying her schedule has become more difficult as a single working mom and citizen-soldier.
“Even while traveling for work, I make sure to continue to attend meetings and represent the best interests of the voters. The unelected appointees who are spearheading this political stunt are out of line; I’m putting them on notice now. I am not going anywhere, and I will finish the job that an overwhelming majority of District B voters sent me to do,” Williams explained.
The Clark County DA says Williams has until September 9 to relinquish her office.
Clark County Education Association released a statement on social media calling out Williams and other members of the board.
Williams is not up for reelection.
CCSD says they are “aware of the communication the District Attorney’s office sent to Trustee Williams.”
There is a CCSD Board of Trustees work session Wednesday evening.
