LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas firefighters responded to a northwest valley apartment fire on Sunday that left two people hospitalized and many more displaced.
According to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, dispatchers received reports of a structure fire at the Bella Solara Apartments on Smoke Ranch Road. The first units arrived at the scene four minutes after assignment and began work to contain the fire.
Crews battled the blaze for 50 minutes to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings.
The fire was extinguished at 3:27 p.m.
Two people were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation and exposure while outdoors, respectively. Additionally, a dog was rescued and transported to a shelter for medical assessment.
The Red Cross of Southern Nevada said 32 residents were displaced across 16 apartments, of which eight were impacted by the fire, and another eight by water problems caused by the fire. To help those displaced, the city of Las Vegas and the Red Cross established an overnight shelter at Mirabelli Community Center. There, residents will be provided temporary shelter, food, water, clothing, personal care items, and financial support.
According to an LVFR spokesperson, the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
