LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police arrested and booked one of its own Friday on several different charges.
Metro police sergeant Kevin Menon is being held at the Clark County Detention Center following an internal affairs bureau investigation.
Menon, 42, was charged with oppression under color of office with force, eight counts of oppression under color of office, two counts of subornation of perjury and battery on a protected person.
State law says “oppression under color of office” means an officer who unlawfully and maliciously, under pretense or color of official authority arrests or detains a person against the person’s will or seizes or levies upon another’s property.
He has been with the police department since 2014. Metro says he worked in the Convention Center Area Command Tourist Safety Division.
Metro says Menon was placed on leave in May, under suspension of police powers with pay pending further investigation.
This is a developing story.
