9pm update: Regarding the Mead Substation Fire: BC Fire – in partnership with Henderson Fire has the situation under control. Residents may experience smoke from the fire but only those residents with respiratory concerns should use caution when outdoors.

Black smoke filled the Las Vegas Valley sky Thursday evening.
The City of Boulder City says a large transformer fire started at I-11 and mile marker nine. Officials said there are no injuries, but it could burn for while.
Boulder City leaders ask residents to avoid the area.
Western Area Power who owns the transformers provided a statement:
The City of Henderson confirmed they are assisting the Boulder City Fire Department in this fire.
FOX5 also confirmed it is not NVEnergy equipment.
Boulder City confirmed to FOX5 there are no outages.
