LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – After their impressive run in the Little League World Series, the Paseo Verde baseball team was welcomed home with a pizza party this weekend.
“It was an awesome experience with my teammates. We had a great time, and I felt like to just accomplish that and see that our hard work paid off,” said left fielder Luke Lentz. “It was just a really great experience.”
“Just getting there is an accomplishment, let alone finishing third in the U.S. That’s a testament to the kids, the coaching staff, the family, the community, our league,” said assistant coach Jeffrey Soranaka. “Everyone just backed us up, and we were lucky to get out there and showcase what we could do.”
The team was greeted by fans as soon as they touched down at the Las Vegas airport.
“You feel like you’re famous, all these people know you, and it’s pretty fun just celebrating and having fun with other teammates,” said second baseman Gunner Beranek.
Then, they headed to their party at Pizza Pie Guy, where they watched the championship game of the Little League World Series together as a team.
“I think it’s important that we recognize all the greatness in Henderson and these, these kids definitely were great. And what a better way to come eat pizza and and watch the the final of the Little League World Series,” said Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero.
“It’s a really nice feeling. I don’t know how else to explain it. The kids feel loved, and we feel loved as a team in general, so it’s great,” said Soranaka.
Now, these young athletes are looking ahead to next season, ready to dominate the diamond once again.
“Just keep progressing and working hard and getting better as a player,” said Lentz.
“Thank you to all my family and friends for supporting me. Thank you to all my teammates for being along with me. You guys are like brothers to me and I want to thank you so much.”
