LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas man was arrested early Saturday morning following a deadly crash south of the Strip.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred at 12:07 a.m. on South Las Vegas Boulevard at East Pyle Avenue, near South Point Hotel.
An investigation revealed that a Nissan Rogue was traveling north on Las Vegas Boulevard, while a Jeep Grand Cherokee was headed south. Police say the Jeep’s driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic and made an abrupt left turn in front of the Nissan.
The front of the Nissan collided with the right side of the Jeep, seriously damaging both vehicles.
The Nissan’s driver was transported to UMC with life-threatening injuries, where he would later die.
The Jeep’s driver, identified as 48-year-old Walter Quijano, was also transported to UMC with minor injuries. Police would also note that Quijano displayed signs of impairment, and would be arrested on a charge of DUI resulting in death.
“The Nissan driver’s death marked the 93rd traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for the year 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release. “This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section.”
