LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A motorcyclist is dead after being struck by an SUV on Wednesday night in North Las Vegas, police say.
North Las Vegas Police Department responded to the crash at the intersection of West Carey Avenue and North Martin Luther King Boulevard around 8:58 p.m. Arriving officers noted that the crash involved an “unregistered homemade motorbike” and a Ford Focus.
The motorbike was traveling illegally inside a marked crosswalk against a red light, moving eastbound on Carey Avenue while crossing Martin Luther King Boulevard. At the same time, a Ford Focus was traveling North on MLK on a green light, and struck the bike.
The rider of the bike, an unknown male believed to be in his 30s, was ejected and seriously injured, according to police.
Medical personnel responded to the scene, but would later confirm that the rider died at the scene.
The initial crash would also cause three separate car collisions, due to traffic coming to a stop in the northbound MLK lanes. No injuries were reported in those crashes, police said.
The collision remains under investigation, though police say impairment is not believed to be a factor.
Anyone who may have information about this collision is urged to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department by phone at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 702-385 -5555, or on the internet at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
