LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Sphere lights up Las Vegas day and night and wants to amp up the music on the outside of the multibillion dollar concert venue. Some neighbors says it is already way too loud.
At a meeting of the Paradise Town Advisory Board Tuesday night, neighbors told board members the music on the outside of the Sphere has rattled their windows, shaken their floors, and kept them from sleeping.
“I have to sit here and say, can I trust you now? Can I trust that you’re not going to turn up the music too loud and then people have to complain in order to get it taken down because that’s not what should happen,” one board member asked a Sphere representative.
“It is not windows rattling loud… we’re asking for is just a little loud, not out of control loud,” the Sphere representative asserted.
The Paradise Town Advisory Board and Sphere officials tried to hash out an agreement on sound levels. Katlyn Cunningham, Vice-Chair of the Board said the Sphere needs to have a top sound limit for music it plays outside the venue.
On July 4 this year, one year since the debut of the exosphere and all its creative and memorable displays, music syncing to the display made its debut. Some neighbors were not happy about it.
The Park Towers Homeowners Association and several of their residents shared their stories at the public meeting saying the music never ends, arguing that when it turned on on July 4th they were “ambushed.”
“We can hear the music… ratting our windows on the opposite side of the building.… This is not some gentle music,” contended Mike Watson who lives in Park Towers.
The Sphere said on the Fourth of July they did exceed the sound limit and apologized to neighbors for that at the meeting.
The Paradise Town Advisory Board okayed the Sphere sound waiver proposal with conditions. Residents within 800 feet have to be notified of events 14 days beforehand and the higher level of sound can only be projected 9am to midnight expect New Years.
Ultimately, it will be up to Clark County Commissioners to give final approval. That meeting will take place September 4th. The Sphere is looking for a one year sound waiver.
