LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Police believe the stabbing attack of two Las Vegas casino workers was “unprovoked,” according to an arret report.
Shayne Sussman, 25, is accused of stabbing two Red Rock Casino workers before he was shot by security early Saturday morning.
According to police, multiple 911 calls came in shortly after 1 a.m. Aug. 3. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said most callers didn’t know about the stabbings and were calling about a shooting on the casino floor. About 20 minutes into the investigation, responding officers learned about the stabbings.
The two stabbing victims both said they were immediately attacked by the suspect. One victim had a cut to his lip and a puncture wound to his collar bone area; the other victim had two stab wounds to the back and his lung was punctured, an arrest report said.
“At this time, it appears the attack on the employees were unprovoked after being approached from behind by Sussman,” the arrest report said.
An off-duty security guard who was at the casino for a concert told police that the suspect was in a bathroom trying to sell “coke and Special K,” or cocaine and ketamine. The guard declined and left, but said the suspect was there again later in the night, still trying to sell drugs. That guard also ran to the scene when the suspect was shot and was able to identify the suspect as the same person trying to sell him drugs.
Family of Sussman said he didn’t have any known mental health or substance abuse issues, an arrest report said. A friend who was with Sussman at the casino said Sussman took his phone and ran and he couldn’t find him in the casino, only to later discover he was shot by security.
Sussman faces multiple attempted murder and battery charges, according to court records. Sussman didn’t appear in court on Tuesday as he is still hospitalized. His court hearing was rescheduled for Aug. 12.
