We all love a good happy hour, a time to relax with friends and family (and sometimes coworkers) and sample the goodies available at that particular restaurant or bar. In the case of Jaleo by Jose Andrés in The Cosmopolitan, it’s actually sangria hour!
The newest sangria hour menu at the primarily tapas restaurant kicked off earlier this fall and introduced additional cocktails, such as the margarita Donostiarra, with arbol-infused blanco tequila Vida, mezcal, bay leaf and lime, plus the vaunted porron, a larger portion of which you are meant to lift, and, yes, pour into your mouth from as far away as possible. Now, that makes for a super-fun start to the night. You can find beer and wine by the glass, too, at an exceptionally reasonable price.
Order a variety of tapas to accompany your drinks, like the endibas (possibly my favorite), mini bites featuring orange, goat cheese and almonds on endive; patatas bravas with spicy tomato sauce; or the mini salmon cone with trout roe (these cones are treasured at Andre’s restaurants). And the Board and Bottle pairs either a selection of cured Iberico meats or one of cheese with an entire bottle of wine for $75.
The sangria hour menu is available only in the bar from 5-7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and is very popular—I’ve been known to hang out half an hour before opening just to indulge!
