LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A daring rescue was caught on Las Vegas Metro Police body camera video, showing the tense moments when an officer climbed a dumpster to save a woman from a burning building.
In the body camera video, large flames could be seen coming from the building, while a woman is stuck on the balcony, frantic.
The officers try to keep her calm while they figure out how to reach her – and it all happens in a matter of minutes.
“Hey, just stay right there. Come to this corner right here. Anyone else inside? Alright just stay right there,” an officers says in the video.
Metro police responded to a downtown apartment fire last December.
A woman was trapped on a balcony as the building burned, until one officer found a way to reach her.
“Grab the dumpster!” yelled the officer in the video.
“Stay right there! Don’t move! Hold on!” he yelled to the woman on the balcony.
“Get me up there! Get me up there!” he said as others dragged the dumpster over, and the officer climbed on top of it.
He climbed to the balcony, and the officers hoisted the woman to safety.
“We got her off the balcony,” an officer said into his radio in the video.
The three officers involved in the rescue were honored at a ceremony Wednesday, recognized for their quick thinking, courage and compassion.
“Oh, thank you! I’m fine thank you,” said the woman, expressing her gratitude to the officer who saved her.
