LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Another shocking case of animal abuse in the Las Vegas Valley.
This time, an English Bulldog found inside of a tote bin that had been taped shut, next to a dumpster in 100-degree temperatures.
Staff members at the Veterinary Emergency Group worked for hours trying to revive a dog on the brink of death, in what appears to be a shocking case of animal abuse.
Reba, the dog, suffered heat stroke and struggled to breathe. Medical Director, Dr. Jessica Dowling of the Veterinary Emergency Group says it was a dire situation. “She wasn’t able to breathe because her lungs had filled with fluid from trying to breathe so hard,” Dr. Dowling said. “Dogs just don’t have a good way of losing that heat like we do. So they’re trying desperately to breathe. And it’s just a vicious cycle that just keeps getting worse.”
The dog was discovered in a taped-up tote bin near the Boulevard Mall on Maryland Parkway and East Twain Avenue on Thursday night.
Carlos Herrera, a member of Paws Patrol, a non-profit group that helps animals in need drove the dog to the veterinary clinic, where she had a seizure in the car.
“To know that somebody had the audacity to put the dog in there, tape that shut, and leave the dog there and just walk away, you know when it’s 110-degrees outside, it just doesn’t make sense,” Herrera said.
Unfortunately, he says instances like this aren’t uncommon. “It’s becoming a problem. You know, with dogs being dumped, dogs being taped up with their snouts, dogs being tied up to a tree, dogs just being left outside. It’s just it’s becoming a real issue here,” Herrera said.
Dr. Dowling doesn’t mince words about Reba’s current situation, and how it compares to other cases of alleged animal abuse.
“Fortunately, we don’t see many of these, but in terms of the ones we do see, this one was very severe,” Dr. Dowling said. “There was definitely a possibility just in that first few minutes that we might have lost her.”
Las Vegas police started an investigation to see who’s behind this.
We’re told Reba is more stable right now, but she’s not out of the woods yet.
With vet bills estimated to exceed $8,000, the Vegas Pet Rescue Project is accepting donations for Reba.
