LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – I-15 is closed near Baker in both directions after a semi-truck carrying lithium batteries caught fire Friday morning.
According to California Highway Patrol, the San Bernadino County Fire Department is responding to the fire and fuel spill. Firefighters say the semi-truck overturned while hauling a “connex of lithium-ion batteries.”
A hard closure has been implemented to establish a safe distance from the fuel and oil along the roadway. Suppression efforts have also been complicated by the truck’s content.
Additional resources have also been requested at the scene, including a HazMat unit, additional water, and heavy equipment.
Those traveling across the Nevada-California state line are advised to prepare for delays or find alternate routes.
