LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas City Council voted Wednesday on what’s become a controversial topic, a new LDS temple in the northwest valley.
This is a 20-acre project met with both huge opposition and strong support. Both sides showed up for this portion of the city council meeting this afternoon where tensions are already running high.
The project has already gotten the green light for a conditional use permit but some neighbors don’t want it. FOX5 reports that many neighbors are worried about how this massive temple will disrupt their rural lives.
In the last meeting earlier this summer, the council room was packed with church members who wanted the temple and neighbors who didn’t want it.
Given that turnout, the city council had to move this agenda item to later Wednesday afternoon. We are told this is because of the expected turnout there is extra security in place.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
