LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas flight bound for Canada was forced to turn around on Monday night due to an “engine issue.”
FlightAware, a real-time flight-tracking software, indicated that WestJet Flight 1449 left from Harry Reid International Airport around 8:35 p.m. The flight – a Boeing 737-700 – was headed to Edmonton International Airport in Canada.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to FOX5 that the flight returned to Harry Reid around 9:45 p.m. after crews reported a “possible engine issue.”
The FAA also confirmed that they will be investigating the incident.
WestJet also told FOX5 that the aircraft was “removed from service for a maintenance inspection.”
An airline spokesperson also added, “We are sincerely sorry for the delay this has caused our guests. WestJet has full confidence in the safety of our fleet and our industry-leading safety standards.”
The flight is set to arrive in Edmonton at midnight on Wednesday, July 10. The investigation is ongoing.
