LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Thousands of pounds of illegal fireworks were seized and hundreds were cited on Fourth of July in the Las Vegas Valley.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, they seized 17,260 lbs of illegal fireworks in the days leading up to the Fourth of July and on the holiday. Approximately 229 were served citations for lighting illegal fireworks.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue said they seized about 16,000 lbs of illegal fireworks. LVFR said there were 85 total firework incidents in the City of Las Vegas that they responded to from 6 p.m. July 4 to 4 a.m. July 5, including:
- 1- Burn Injury
- 77 -Outside Fires
- 4- Building Fires
- 3- Smoke Investigations Outside Only
North Las Vegas Fire Department said they responded to 70 firework-related calls from 8 a.m. July 4 to 8 a.m. July 5:
- One minor structure fire (zero the previous year)
- A 20-year-old man sustained serious facial and eye injuries as a result of handling an illegal firework (zero the previous year)
- One car fire caused by fireworks
Clark County Fire Department said there were 11,207 complaints on its ISpyFireworks.com website from June 28-July 4, with 9,355 complaints alone on July 4.
CCFD responded to 193 calls involving outside fires and 18 reports of building fires on July 4 through the overnight hours of July 5, including three structure fires they said were directly related to illegal fireworks. CCFD said they didn’t receive any reports of injuries due to fireworks.
Henderson Fire Department had not provided Fourth of July data as of Friday afternoon.
