LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas police officer rescued two dogs in the northeast area from a hot minivan.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shared a post on Instagram where Officer Jennifer Williams is seen responding to an animal call near Lake Mead and Hollywood boulevards late May.
At an apartment complex, video shows her finding two dogs tethered inside a hot minivan. That day, police said it was nearly 100 degrees outside. In the minivan, the the temperature was 110 degrees.
Police said they learned the intent was to leave the dogs inside the van for a long period of time as she observed pee pads for the animals.
“Officer Williams tried to locate the owner and then broke the window to rescue the dogs,” Metro said. “The dogs were treated and taken to a shelter.”
This is an ongoing investigation. Police said there are ordinances and laws protecting animals from extreme weather
“It goes without saying leaving pets in a car, even for a couple of minutes, is a crime,” police said.
