LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – It has been more than a week since a fire damaged or destroyed 26 boats at the Las Vegas Boat Harbor at Lake Mead.

Now, those boat owners finally have access to their vessels and belongings — but the two damaged docks remain closed.
On Monday, FOX5 got a new look at that damage to the I-dock. Much of it was charred, with pieces of wood in the water, lined with storage bins that melted in the fire. Containment lines also remained on the water, keeping the debris from drifting as the fire investigation continues.
Last week, investigators were using underwater cameras.

In the last few days, harbor owner Gail Kaiser says divers have been under the water, evaluating the damage and debris. However, she says they can’t touch or remove anything until they get clearance from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Kaiser says there’s still no timeline on when the fire investigation will be complete, and repairs can begin. She says they had just finished repairs to the dock from storm damage less than a year ago when this fire broke out, and they still don’t know the extent of this new damage from the fire.
The damaged docks are still closed for the investigation. Only boat owners are allowed, by shuttle and by appointment only, although Kaiser says most have already been out to check on their boats and collect belongings left behind during the fire evacuations.
The rest of the marina is still open, except the I and R docks.
Kaiser says they had a busy Father’s Day weekend at the Las Vegas Boat Harbor marina despite the partial closure.
