SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Nev. (KOLO) – JUNE 16 UPDATE: The two people killed Thursday in an airplane crash south of Lake Tahoe have been identified as pilot Rahael Jones Jr. 74, of San Jose and Jeanette Shriver Singer, 80, from Lodi
KCRA reported the identities on Sunday, attributing the information to the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office.
The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a telephone call and an email seeking comment.
ORIGINAL STORY: Two people were killed in a plane crash near South Lake Tahoe on Thursday.
Around 1 a.m. Thursday, deputies with the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office received notice of an overdue aircraft. The Luscombe 8A aircraft’s GPS transponder was plotting in the area of Willow Creek near Luther Pass, about 10 miles south of South Lake Tahoe.
Deputies responded and found a crashed single-engine aircraft adjacent to Willow Creek Road. The aircraft’s two occupants were pronounced dead on scene.
Identification of the two decedents is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is ongoing.
