LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – North Las Vegas Police said they shot a suspect accused of pointing a gun at multiple people, including officers.
The incident happened around 9:07 p.m. Saturday near Craig Road and N. 5th Street. According to NLVPD, there was a four-vehicle crash in the area and witnesses said the driver accused of causing the crash was armed, threatening people who approached the vehicle. Police said a first responders with North Las Vegas Fire Department were also threatened with a gun.
NLVPD said they attempted to have the male driver drop the gun and exit the vehicle unarmed, but said the suspect ignored their commands and raised the gun toward several officer. NLVPD said seven officers shot at the suspect.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin is notified.
The shooting is the second NLVPD officer-involved shooting in 2024. The identities of the officers will be released after 48 hours.
NLVPD said the investigation is still in the preliminary stages. Additional details on the crash that led up to the incident weren’t immediately available.
