LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Red Rock Canyon has a new tortoise at its habitat, and there will be a public contest to name the shelled resident.
Red Rock Canyon NCA Tortoise Habitat announced that Friends of Red Rock Canyon will hold a naming contest, with the winning entry to be selected at the group’s annual meeting on September 21.
Friends of Red Rock Canyon is asking for a $25 donation to the tort medical fund, which can be made here: https://www.friendsredrock.org/donate.

The new tortoise is a female that is around five years old. She was brought to Red Rock Canyon by Sarah Mortimer, the Director of the Tortoise Group. The new girl’s genus name is Gopherus Morafkai.
