LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas man is accused of stabbing five teenagers after they “jumped” his nephew; but the teens said the nephew accused them of kicking his dog, leading to the altercation, according to an arrest report.
Nicasio Gomez faces multiple assault charges after the altercation on April 25 at an apartment complex in the 6200 block of W. Tropicana, in the southwest valley. The stabbing reportedly took place on the playground at an apartment complex.
According to an arrest report, multiple victims said they were approached by a man who accused one of the female teens of kicking his dog. The teen denied kicking the dog to police. The teens said the man “squared up” in a fighting stance, trying to fight the teen girl, which led to a brawl with the group of teens and the man.
That’s when the teens said the suspect, later identified as Gomez, exited a nearby apartment with a “hunting knife” and stabbed some of the teens, the report said. One witness said Gomez “appeared to keep making slashing/stabbing motions at the victims who ran away as if to mock them,” the report said.
In an interview with police, Gomez said he wanted a lawyer, but later reportedly asked “what happened to the other 25 kids or thugs that jumped his nephew?” and “Am I the only one getting charged?”
The man who was involved in the original fight told police that the teens had hurled insults at him prior to the altercation. He said his uncle helped him address an injury he got during the fight, but was unaware of any stabbing, the arrest report said.
Court records show Gomez faces ten felony charges: five child abuse charges and five battery charges. His bail was set at $25,000 and was ordered to stay away from the victims and the complex where the incident occurred. He was also ordered to not have weapons in his possession and to stay out of trouble.
Gomez has a preliminary hearing set for May 14.
