Las Vegas resort companies are coming to the aid of Californians impacted by the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
MGM Resorts International and Resorts World are offering a 35% discount on rooms at their local properties for those fleeing California.
At least 150,000 residents are under evacuation orders and 10,000 homes have been burned, the Associated Press reported. Las Vegas is a quick four-hour drive on Interstate 15.
Resorts World in a social media post instructed California residents to call 702-676-7036 and mention the “LA Support Rate.”
Virgin Hotels Las Vegas — which is dog-friendly — is offering rates from $50, free self-parking and valet, and no resort fee, officials said. Rooms need to be booked before Jan. 16 by calling 800-693-7625.
Treasure Island is offering California residents affected by the wildfires a $79 room rate now through Jan. 31, the property said. Call 800-288-7206 to book.
South Point is offering discounted rates through Jan. 31 using the code CAR0109. The room must be booked by calling 866-796-7111; rates will be provided on the call, resort officials said.
Additionally, MGM Resorts and Wynn Resorts have each donated $1 million to groups leading the response.
Wynn gave $700,000 to the American Red Cross and $300,000 to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, officials said.
The company is also launching a campaign to encourage employee donations to the relief effort. It will match dollar-for-dollar all employee donations, officials said in a statement.
“Our hearts go out to those who have been impacted by the devastating Southern California wildfires,” Craig Billings, CEO of Wynn Resorts, said in a statement. “In times like this, there is little that can be done to console the immense loss that so many people are experiencing but we remain ready to assist in any way that we can.”
