It’s time for some fresh flavors. New restaurants and culinary experiences are beginning to bloom on and off the Las Vegas Strip, so let’s do some exploring and why not start with something sweet? Award-winning pastry chef Claude Escamilla, who grew up and was educated in the south of France before working at the beloved patisseries at Bellagio and Aria, recently opened his first signature European-style pastry shop at the heart of the Strip. Sweet Sin (702.405.8397) is located at The Linq Promenade and easily identifiable by its whisk-shaped pendant lights hanging from the ceiling, bright polka-dot décor and huge chocolate fountain that dispenses different flavors. Escamilla’s calling cards are sweet, delicate macarons and light and fluffy crepes, but Sweet Sin offers all manners of gelato, European desserts and pastries as well as omelets, breakfast sandwiches and coffee beverages. Don’t you deserve a treat?
New at Aria and conveniently located next to the bustling poker room is the fast-casual Posh Burger (702.590.7111), a new take on an American classic. High-quality ingredients and simple, favorite flavors drive this new concept from MGM Resorts, its menu stacked with a spicy Buffalo fried chicken sandwich; crispy French fries by themselves or loaded with cheese, bacon and guacamole; or indulgent chocolate banana or salted caramel milkshakes. The Ultra Posh Burger takes things to a luxurious new level with wagyu beef, foie gras, truffle and gold dust, while the Impossible Burger offers a vegetarian version of that classic California-style, drive-thru bite. Open until 3 a.m. on weekends, Posh Burger is ready to satisfy your cravings.
If you’re the type of foodie adventurer who seeks out off-the-beaten-path deliciousness, head to the eastern side of the valley and get ready for historic fried chicken satisfaction. Los Angeles institution Golden Bird Chicken (725.277.2110) recently expanded with its first Las Vegas location on Desert Inn Road and brought along some of the crunchiest, juiciest poultry you’ll ever sink your teeth into. Crispy fried fish and shrimp, mac and cheese and coleslaw round out the simple but sensational offerings.
In downtown Henderson, conveniently situated near the Lifeguard Arena hockey facility, Sticks Tavern (702.900.3969) is one of the hottest new sports bars in the valley, feeding fans with game-time snacks like poutine, fried Oaxacan cheese sticks and crispy wings, plus heartier fare such as rotisserie chicken, bacon and mushroom cheeseburgers and fried pork chop sandwiches. Of course, a vast selection of beer and cocktails are on tap here, too.
In the Chinatown district on the west side of town, the family behind some of the most popular Thai restaurants in recent history has opened another new eatery with its own innovative approach. Lamoon (702.778.8991) on Spring Mountain Road offers a balance of familiar fare like papaya salad, duck curry and pad Thai noodles, but it’s ready to expand your horizons with traditional beef “boat noodle” soup and crispy “golden cups” filled with spice-drenched salmon. Lamoon also serves sushi and a few other Japanese dishes, as well as a full menu of coffee and tea drinks, creating the perfect, relaxing destination for a leisurely lunch, afternoon snack, or energetic dinner with friends.
