Fried chicken sandwiches are not a fad; if anything, they’re almost more popular than burgers right now. The Chick Fil-A/Popeye’s chicken sandwich “war” is proof that people take this food item seriously. And no chain is more dedicated to elevating that experience than Crack Shack, a “gourmet” fried-chicken eatery that has a creative, expansive menu full of surprises.
The Coop Deville features the chain’s famous fried Jidori chicken breast along with pickled Fresno chiles, lime mayo and Napa cabbage on a brioche roll. The Cali Drip features pollo asado and fries topped with chipotle-bacon mayo, pickled onions, jalapenos and Oaxacan queso on a crunchy torta. For the truly brave, order the Double Clucker, two chicken patties piled high with bacon, cheddar, smashed avocado, pickles, fried onions and “burger sauce” on a potato roll.
There’s plenty of inventive sides as well, from chicken oysters and Mexican poutine, the eatery’s signature Schmaltz fries covered with pollo asado and jalapeño cheese.
