UNLV’s freshman place kicker Caden Chittenden was named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the week, the league announced on Monday.
Chittenden, a local product from Faith Lutheran, made field goals of 46 and 21 yards on Saturday in a 41-20 win over San Diego State. He also made all five of his extra point attempts.
It’s been a tremendous maiden season for Chittenden, who is the nation’s highest-scoring kicker with 109 points. He’s also tied for the most field goals nationally with 22, which also equals the Mountain West single-season mark for a freshman.
UNLV (8-2) returned to the national rankings on Sunday at No. 23 in both the Associated Press poll and USA TODAY Coaches Poll. It’s the highest all-time ranking in each poll, the university said.
UNLV plays at 7 p.m. Friday at San Jose State.
