LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A man accused in a deadly stabbing was caught on video burying the knife used in the attack, an arrest report revealed.
Jose Escamilla, 33, was arrested as a suspect in the attack after police located a victim near Lake Mead and Hollywood last Tuesday.
An off-duty officer nearby reported the incident to police, initially stating that the two were “in a fight” but later added that the victim appeared to be “swaying” and “not engaged.” Escamilla was also observed making “punching motions” toward the victim, which police later determined to be stabbings.
The victim would later die after being taken to UMC but has still not been identified, according to the report.
Police also obtained surveillance video from a nearby business, showing Escamilla burying an object under a pile of rocks and removing a hoodie to discard in a dumpster. Detectives would later recover a bloody knife and a hoodie from the area.
During the investigation, a citizen called police to identify Escamilla as a possible suspect. Additional surveillance video taken near his residence showed him leaving the area in clothing similar to the suspect.
Escamilla was taken into custody the next day.
Court records also revealed that Escamilla had faced several violent charges, including a murder charge dating back as far as 2005. More recently, he faced two battery charges in October, one of which involved Escamilla attempting to choke a police officer.
He currently remains in custody and is due back in court on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
