RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – NV Energy is warning the public of scams they say tend to increase during the holiday season.
They say common scams include phone calls appearing to come from NV Energy where the caller demands immediate payment and threatens disconnection.
They also say scammers will use spoofing tactics to make it appear as though a call is coming from NV Energy, with some even using recordings that mimic the company’s automated phone system.
You are asked to never provide personal or account information to a caller, and to hang up the phone immediately and call their customer service to verify the legitimacy of their calls.
They also remind people that they will never ask for payment via Zelle, MoneyPak, Venmo, Bitcoin or QR Code.
