LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Cold, wet and occasionally snowy weather is closer than Nevadans may think, and so are winter driving conditions.
Sergeant Brad Osuch with Nevada State Police says staying safe on the road is all about being prepared.
Osuch says drivers could be cited under certain circumstances when it comes to wet or snowy conditions.
“Slow down and keep an eye on your speed,” he said.
Winter speeds on wet or snow roads can cause a car, pickup or truck to slide and crash.
Having the right gear is also important, according to Osuch. For mountains and highways where snow has covered the roads, not having tire chains could leave motorists stranded.
Bringing extra snacks water and blankets will also help.
One last tip from Sgt. Osuch, “try and maintain at least a half a tank of gas, and if you have an EV at least a half charge in case you become stuck due to weather and a road closure.”
