Lately, you may have noticed more vegan options when you dine out. (Even fast-food joints have vegan and vegetarian options!) This month, plant-based eating gets a starring role on menus, thanks in part to Veganuary, an English charity that encourages people to try a vegan diet for the month of January and which is becoming more popular in the U.S. If you want to give it a go, here are some fabulous options for you while you’re on vacation.
Vegan advocate Vegans, Baby has partnered with restaurants across the Vegas Valley for Vegan Dining Month, offering special meals where a portion of the proceeds will benefit a local animal charity. You can check the list on vegansbaby.com, but some delicious dishes you can enjoy include the truffle vegan meatloaf with potatoes and truffle gravy at Barry’s Downtown Prime (Circa Resort & Casino, 702.726.5504). There’s a vegan menu as well, so you can indulge in other items, too. Also on Vegans, Baby’s list is Border Grill, with a root vegetable tamale, Impossible meat nachos, wild mushroom tacos and smoked tofu enchiladas (Mandalay Bay, 702.632.7403). There are lots of local options as well, including Tacotarian in the Arts District (1130 S. Casino Center Blvd., 725.251.3853).
The Venetian and The Palazzo has upped its vegan game; more than 15 restaurants in the resort offer vegan options, like, Brera Osteria’s Go Vegan four-course prix fixe menu (The Venetian, 702.414.1227), where your choices include garganelli, farro, eggplant and spiced polenta. Another great option for vegans includes the high-end Chinese place Mott 32 (The Palazzo, 702.607.3232), where the signature smoked “cod” has garnered rave reviews from meat eaters and vegans alike. And the braised eggplant is to die for. At Bouchon (The Venetian, 702.414.6200) ask about the vegan chop. Just ask; it’s pretty wild.
Casual options for vegans at Resorts World Las Vegas include Streetbird (702.676.7000), where chef Marcus Samuelsson introduced Impossible chicken nuggets to snack on in November, and Mulberry Street Pizzeria (702.676.8860), where you can get a slice perfect for you. And for dessert? Stroll over to Craig’s Vegan (702.676.7000), where the plant-based ice cream will make you swoon.
A local favorite, Ada’s Wine Bar (410 S. Rampart Blvd. No.120, 702.462.2795) has five vegan items on the menu, including blue corn tamales. And there are plenty of vegan-only restaurants in Vegas (including burger joints!), but the broccoli beef at Chef Kenny’s Asian Vegan Restaurant (682 Spring Mountain Road, 702.889.0939) is freaking amazing. The chef, Kenny Chye, also owns Chef Kenny’s Vegan Dim Sum (5570 W. Flamingo Road, 725.251.3920). Saffron, The Vegetarian Eatery (3545 S. Decatur Blvd., 702.201.1926), garnered a ton of buzz when it opened, offering Asian cuisine with such items as mushroom dumplings, floating gyoza, and red and green curries, plus vegan cheesecake and gelato.
