You don’t have to go far into Kassi Beach House to get a feel for the atmosphere—the entry hall’s arched doorway is backed by a wall of niches with rustic serving pieces. Inside, walk past a small bar into the dining area, where bright whitewashed walls surround several open rooms with low couches, casual tables with wicker chairs and cushy upholstered banquettes.
On one wall, large windows and doors open to the pool area, on the opposite, a large cutout open to the kitchen as servers bustle up to grab their dishes. In the center, alcoholic slushies, wine, beer, and shaken and classic drinks issue forth from a bustling bar. The espresso martini, a drink that’s experiencing a little surge in popularity, is especially good, with Belvedere vodka (distilled in Poland), espresso and vanilla. It’s finished with the classic garnish of coffee beans.
There are portion sizes for every appetite here, but sharing is an excellent idea, too, and you can’t get a better start to that than ordering the mezze platter. You get whipped eggplant, whipped ricotta with honey, and white bean dip, along with a selection of crudité and oven-roasted puccia bread. The bread comes out fresh and hot, all puffed up from the oven like a ball, and is exceptional alone or covered in a spread.
The entrées range from light options on the brunch menu, including avocado toast and the tasty Green Eggs—soft scrambled eggs served with a mix of squash, zucchini, arugula, avocado and salsa verde, topped with Parmesan (you can see where it gets the name); steak frites and the Kassi burger with two patties; to dinner menu items like oven-roasted branzino with confit fingerling potatoes and the rotisserie chicken diavolo features chili, a garlic sauce and green salad.
There are several pastas available, like the canestri in vodka sauce, a sometimes mild tomato and cream sauce that’s given a kick here with Calabrian chili. But you can also order cacio e pepe—just simple spaghetti, butter, black pepper and pecorino cheese; or the spaghetti and Manila clams in white wine sauce.
Kassi also features several varieties of pizzas, all from that same delicious puccia dough. The breakfast pizza piles scrambled eggs, guanciale, provolone, Parmesan and green onions on the crust, and the aroma when it’s delivered to the table is delightful! For dinner, other possibilities include a truffle pizza, with truffle ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan and pecorino, plus shaved black truffle, and white truffle oils; a soppressata pizza with honey and an insalata version with a variety of lettuce and anchovy vinaigrette.
Although dessert during the day might not be your thing, consider Kassi’s panna cotta with vanilla custard, raspberry preserves and whipped cream. It’s light enough that you can handle it easily. But, if dessert during the day is your thing, you will want The Big ’Stache. This monster ice cream sandwich is constructed of pistachio gelato, marshmallow and chocolate. This is built to share, and perfect for pics.
