LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An arrest warrant obtained by FOX5 revealed that an investigation into former CCSD Trustee Katie Williams began months before her resignation.
The warrant details the months-long investigation into Williams, who moved out of Nevada back in April but continued serving on the board until her resignation. Nevada state law requires each trustee to live in the election district they represent and be elected by that district’s voters.
“Williams exercised her official power on at least seven occasions from April 3 to August 8,” the warrant reads.
Las Vegas Metro police became involved in early June when social media posts by Williams suggested that she may have moved to Nebraska. Investigators would confirm her address using a law enforcement database, and her employment at a Nebraska-based law firm. They added that the firm did not have any ties to Nevada.
Investigators also surveilled Williams’ North Las Vegas residence between June 5-11 and saw no vehicles or people go in or out.
In July, CCSD informed investigators that Williams’ daughter was listed as a “no-show” for the upcoming school year. They added that Williams herself notified school officials that her daughter would no longer be enrolled in the district.
Investigators later confirmed that Williams enrolled her daughter in a Nebraska school district on March 11. A notarized letter was also submitted to the district by Williams’ fiancée identifying her as a Nebraska resident.
FOX5 has reached out to the District Attorney’s office for comment or insight on the charges against Williams. So far, we have not heard back.
