LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) is giving Las Vegas Athletic Club (LVAC) the green light for lifeguards to staff pools at seven valley locations.
The lifeguard plan approval comes after the gym chain closed its pools because the health district revoked a lifeguard waiver.
This came after 2 incidents over the past year, including one where a woman died at a North Las Vegas LVAC pool.
LVAC later filed a lawsuit against SNHD following the closures. The gym chain claims a woman’s drowning death in early February was due to a “fatal heart attack.” However, the Clark County coroner ruled her death as a drowning.
The waiver lets the gym chain have workers monitor pools by video surveillance instead of having in-person lifeguards.
Here is the list of locations:
- 1195 Wellness Pl
- 2655 S Maryland Pkwy
- 5200 W Sahara Ave

According to a letter from the health district, there are strict guidelines they must follow, including audits at each facility.
