LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A third-grade teacher is gone from a CCSD school just a month into the new school year.
”We were blown away; we had no idea this was going to happen,” said Snyder Elementary parent Kevin Schroeder. “Our daughter loved her teacher. I mean, first of all, she’s only had her for a month.
”Snyder Elementary parents, like Schroeder, received a letter from the school on September 20, saying his daughter’s teacher would be leaving the school within a week due to district-wide budget cuts, and her students would be dispersed to other third-grade classrooms.
”I would expect it’s going to be 30, almost 40 kids per class,” said Schroeder. “I don’t like it at all. It’s not fair. The teachers have their hands tied, and all of a sudden, it turns into herding cats instead of focusing on the individual teaching of our kids.
”The school said this is due to budget cuts, as the district faces a budget crisis, recently announcing the departure of its chief financial officer, who says he was fired.FOX5 has reported on several schools facing air conditioning issues and another cutting back on supplies, eliminating homework packets for second graders to save money.
Schroeder says he is now considering taking his daughter out of CCSD entirely and opting for a private school.
”She loves her school; she loves her teacher; the principal’s awesome,” he said. “But if they are not there, or if there’s this change, or if there’s always a shake-up, yeah, it kind of makes you think that we would certainly prefer to spend some money to hopefully gain some stability.”
FOX5 reached out to CC SD about this, but has not received.
CCEA, largest teachers union, said it has no comment on this matter.
