LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Grandmother Andrea Raney continues her mission to make people aware of wrong way driving and to honor her three-year-old granddaughter Jaya Brooks.
The little girl was killed in a wrong-way crash on U.S. 95 just before Christmas last year.
“Everything is going to be different this year. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that there are still people in need. And if we can do something to help them in Jaya’s honor, out of humanity, it just brings light to an otherwise possibly dim, very dim situation,” said Andrea Raney.
Raney has formed a non-profit called Jaya’s Light Children’s Foundation, where she and volunteers have worked to collect donated clothes for needy kids in foster care, kids who end up in the hospital and in other situations where they may need clothing and other items.
Raney has also been able to provide monthly gymnastics dues for more than a dozen kids. She says Jaya loved gymnastics.
She has now started the “Warm Winter Drive” to collect socks, coats and blankets for children.
She says that will run through November first.
