LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Students at Mountain View Elementary are exploring their new school which features a new design concept.
The school located on the northeast side of the city was first built in the 1950s but was completely demolished last year.
Their new building is now considered a “prototype” school with geometrical shapes, right colors in the class rooms and throughout the school.
School officials tell FOX5 this new concept is the future of learning and they looked at trends nationally and internationally as they came up with a design plan.
Principal Cecila French said the new concept is already a game changer for the 412 students enrolled.
“They are staying engaged and as a result attendance has been phenomenal. I would say 20 more kids just since we opened,” French said. “The kids are doing what we now call discovery learning. They are finding things and wanting to learn about things.”
While the school was being rebuilt, students and teachers had to use portable class rooms for an entire year.
School officials say much of the student population relies on school recourses so they also have included a pantry and supply room.
