LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas animal shelter is trying a new way to incentivize fostering: writing a check.
The Animal Foundation is offering to pay people who commit to a four-week foster of a dog. The program runs from Tuesday, Sept. 2 to Thursday, Sept. 5. Those who complete the four-week fostering will receive $200 upon completion.
The Animal Foundation said this is to help overcrowding at the shelter. They said they averaged an intake of 125 animals daily in July, with most of those animals being dogs.
“This program represents a critical step in our efforts to expand our network of fosters and create space in our shelter for the animals who need us most,” Kelsey Pizzi, Communications Manager at the shelter, said in a news release. “We hope our community will join us in providing temporary homes for these deserving dogs.”
The shelter is hoping to place 75 dogs into month-long foster homes within the three-day period. Dogs eligible for the foster incentive program must be 6 months or older and weighing more than 35 pounds.
