NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – When a fire sparked outside a Las Vegas animal clinic Thursday evening, staffers feared the worst for more than 20 dogs behind a nearby door.
The fire happened around 7 p.m. at Hearts Alive Village Animal Clinic on North Decatur Boulevard, around closing time.
Thankfully, clinic staff told FOX5 that a technician extinguished most of the flames before the North Las Vegas Fire Department arrived.
There were no injuries.
To repair the clinic’s desk and ramp, as well as upgrade its security system with more cameras, the clinic reached out for donations. That led to over $7000 raised as of Monday morning.
Staff members like Stephanie Rodrigo spoke with FOX5 about their fears in those moments, and how things could have ended up much worse for those dogs.
“It’s literally one of my worst nightmares, working with animals. Those are lives. Those are lives that could have been lost. I just want to say thank you again to everybody who contributed and helped us out. All the dogs that we have out here are going to benefit greatly from all the donations.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but arson is not suspected, according to a public safety city spokesperson.
FOX5 has requested additional details about the investigation and will provide updates as they become available.
