LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – North Las Vegas police are investigating the shooting of a 15-year-old suspect accused in several vehicle break-ins Wednesday morning.
Officers were investigating the burglaries in the 5200 block of Styers Street around 12:30 a.m.
Around 2:25 a.m., officers received reports of a vehicle being broken into in the 5100 block of Rocky Bluff Street. The owner of the vehicle described the suspect as a young black male in dark clothing, police say.
Officers located the suspect in the 4300 block of Matinee Avenue around 3:04 a.m. When approaching the suspect, police say he raised a firearm and fired at the officers.
Officers would return fire at the suspect, before chasing after him and continuing to exchange fire. The suspect was eventually struck in the arm and surrendered to officers.
Police say the suspect is 15 years old and was involved in “at least eight” vehicle burglaries before the shooting.
A tourniquet was applied to the suspect’s arm before emergency medical services arrived at the scene and transported him to UMC. The suspect was determined to have non-life-threatening injuries and is receiving treatment.
The investigation is still underway, though NLVPD notes that this is the third officer-involved shooting of the year.
