LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Seven Nellis Air Force Base airmen rescued four people during a hiking trip at Zion National Park.
The rescue happened earlier this month, according to a press release. One of the four people was a pregnant woman.
The U.S. airmen were honored during a coining ceremony Monday morning for representing the Air Force’s core values of “Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.”
“Airman 1st Classes Will Martin, Demarcus Norman, Maximos Olade, Jacob Stillwell, and Rony Lopez-Aguilar, plus Airmen Andres Parra and Christian Reyes were making their way along a popular hiking trail when Airman 1st Class Martin noticed the river rising – a tell-tale sign of an oncoming flash flood,” Nellis Air Force Base said. “As the group made their way to higher ground, they spotted a woman floating on her back who appeared battered, blue, and lifeless.”
Norman pulled the woman to shore. Martin said the woman was barely responsive for an hour as the team called for help.
The team moved to an evacuation area when the woman said she was traveling with three others. The airmen reunited with the rest of the group and executed an air evacuation.
