LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Local football teams are playing under the Friday night lights.
But before you could see your favorite team secure the win, you had to go through security, which led to long lines.
However, a lot can change in a week.
FOX5 went to several high school football games around the valley to see how week two went, and several spectators said they saw noticeable improvements.
On Friday, CCSD released a message to parents and spectators advising them to be patient and arrive early to get through security lines.
Several parents tell FOX5 they were patient last week, in spite of having to wait a while.
“I didn’t get into the second half. It was like two minutes to go in the first half,” said William Robinson whose son plays for Legacy High School. “It was all the way back to the school the line.”
Friday night, not the case. Most people said the same thing about the weapons detection system upgrades at games, explaining the wait time was around 10 minutes and it wasn’t much of an inconvenience.
Again, that wasn’t the case last week, according to parents catching the football game at Legacy High School.
How long did they stay in line?
“About 45 minutes.” That’s a breeze compared to what Ashle Sanchez says other people went through.
“So, I know for a fact one of my one of my friends, it took an hour just for them to get into the game, so this is a lot better,” Sanchez said.
And a lot safer, in spite of potential inconveniences, according to Sanchez, and several others.
“You definitely can’t put a price on safety,” Sanchez said.
“It’s always a good thing because you never know what can happen. So, I think it’s good to take measures beforehand,” according to Mary Espinoza.
As for other measures to take ahead of time, like arriving early as suggested by CCSD, Annie Roberts says she understands the assignment.
“We were told to get here an hour before the game because security is going to be a lot more. I was prepared for this,” Roberts said. “That’s why we got here early, and I’m totally fine with it.”
Again, CCSD reminding families to be patient when attending large-scale campus events, as football season gets underway.
FOX5 reached out to CCSD about whether there were any changes made to make week two run more smoothly, but we have not heard back.
